Rant on Turing

Nature just had a special issue with essays on Turing. Sydney Brenner’s was good, but most of them were not so (but short, so I recommend reading them anyway). Anyway, what can be done to fix this and write a better paper or collection of papers using Turing as a starting point? The immediate target audience would be roughly typical Nature readers (though Nature itself would never accept a rigorous paper on this subject), but this would hopefully be relevant to teaching systems theory in engineering (and physics and biology) in a more integrated way to a younger (e.g. early undergrad) audience. This is somewhat motivated by Turing’s 100 th birthday, but I think it might be natural anyway.
